The Northern Lights, Sprites, Lightning–all so beautiful, so awe inspiring, so captivating. These phenomena can also be bellwethers of maladies that affect our Earth. Questions remain unasked when the populace is ignorant. With many, these phenomena may as well be caused by magic or a disgruntled god holding a scepter. This Earth speaks to us, but our minds must be open to hear her.
Last night, I was half-listening/looking at a movie and the song The Impossible Dream was featured. I had heard the song before, but had never really listened to it. Last night, I listened. Today, I bought Luther Van Dross”s version and he nailed it. Most songs don’t really move me and when one does i overthink why. I think the song captured the stage of life I am in. Still searching because what went before was not fulfilling, but a necessity.
I suppose Climb Every Mountain has some of the same vibes. That song reminds me of my high school graduation. I listened to Dee Dee Sharp’s version and it didn’t evoke the same kind of emotion that The Impossible Dream did. I think the lyrics of The Impossible Dream–And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star–is what really resonated with me. I thought of all my Ancestors have endured and the scars that have been passed through the generations. After all they went through, I see so many of us failing their memory. So many of us are empty husks that came from nowhere, are nowhere, and are going nowhere. A pat on the head, symbolic or otherwise, satisfies us and that satisfaction is such a betrayal. The ones who escaped, the ones who poisoned, the ones who sabotaged, the ones who suffered in a screaming silence, the ones whose names are forever lost–the stain, the sin can never be erased or expiated.
An aside–I knew the Four Tops had a version of Climb Every Mountain. I finally found it. Their version is titled Climb Ev’ry Mountain.
I’m re-watching Star Trek: Strange New Worlds as the third season is airing. I’ve said before–Star Trek’s mission statement needs to be changed. Captain Kirk said “No man has gone before.”(1960s’ white, male misogyny–patriarchy worldview) Captain Picard said “No one had gone before.” (1980s interregnum period where patriarchy grudgingly recognized women.) It really should be “no Earthling has gone before.” Because over the billions, trillions of years of this Universe, it is anthropocentric to say “man” when other Beings have walked the path Earthlings are now discovering. The Universe is not anthropocentric. Just as we Earthlings had to adjust to the fact that the Earth is not the center of our planetary system, we should prepare ourselves that we, the Earthlings, are not the center of the Universe and other Beings will not think as we do. Fiction, but if we Earthlings can only expand our view to include that which might exist, maybe, we could get along with each other on the basis that diversity makes everything better. For fans of Star Trek–IDIC–infinite diversity in infinite combinations.
Mother Nature is confounded, befuddled, confused. This is the first week of September and a dwarf cherry tree in a pot is blooming. From a distance, the white blossoms looked like dandelion fluff caught in the branches. When I took a closer look, there were blossoms! Shouldn’t cherry trees blossom in the spring? I had to repot this cherry tree in late June or early July–not a good time–but it had outgrown its pot and was tipping over in the slightest breeze. It didn’t bloom in the spring and, now, in September…blooms.
There’s been no rain for a couple of weeks. For the past couple of days, rain had been forecasted and, in the afternoon, there were dark forbidding clouds hovering–epic tease. Anyway, I didn’t water for two days. Today, some gray clouds, but mostly fluffy white clouds that did not hide the sun. No rain…so, today I water. Guess what…rain, not a sprinkle, but a late afternoon downpour with thunder and lightning has re-watered my plants.
Sometime ago, I downloaded a review of a book written circa 2005. The premise of the book was that lying confers an evolutionary advantage and that creatures who carried the trait would have more descendants, making that trait more prevalent among the extant population. Really? Let’s look at it this way–cynical me–white people lie, white people control their environment, etc., therefore lying, an evolutionary advantage, is a cause of white people’s success. See, white people are just better than everyone else, exceptional, therefore their success is ordained. As we all know, the group that has named themselves “white” didn’t exist before the 1600s. And, guess what, human survival depends on cooperation within a group. Think about the human baby that requires total support for many years until the child can fend for themselves. Lying is an act of selfishness, i.e., the attempt to aggregate all goods, products, services for one’s own benefit. How can a baby depend on one who lies? Oh, baby, I’ll feed you. Maybe someone will find the corpse. The point is…a group depends on cooperation among its members. Cooperation is built on trust. Lying is destructive of trust and cooperation. A person who lies, in order for the group to survive, must be neutered. The person could be banished, physically mutilated, i.e., tongue removed, or killed. A lying person is a detriment to everyone, but themselves.
And ancient civilizations understood that. For example, if one reads the Laws and Ideals of Ma’at from ancient Egypt, many of the laws and ideals deal with lying, deception, and cheating, e.g., I have not told lies; I have not swindled offerings; I have not closed my ears to the truth; I am not deceitful, etc. One cannot have a civilization if the populace’s evolutionary tendency is the selfishness of lying to aggregate power, goods, services for themselves.
Thieves understand that. Remember what is said “Honor among thieves.” So, I cannot think of any evolutionary reason to trend toward a population made of liars. Just think, their defense would always be “I’m made that way” and cry victim if they were held accountable.
Lying is a tool used by whites, but it is force, brutal unrelenting force, that does the heavy lifting. That is what whites used to seize and remain at the top of the power pyramid.
Fraud, waste, and abuse–renaming military bases to honor traitors; giving tax dollars to an insurrectionist’s family and honoring the insurrectionist with a military funeral; remodeling the White House to create a ballroom; deploying the National Guard to intimidate citizens; accepting gifts from foreign countries; giving tax breaks to the uber wealthy and corporations; family accepting millions of dollars in “gifts”; golfing and taking vacations funded by the taxpayers. But that’s white supremacy’s playbook, their fraud, waste, and abuse is normalized and anything that would make the average citizen’s life better is venomously denounced as socialism.
See, the citizen is expected to have boot straps, except if you’re white, then the government must provide the means for you to prosper. However, some whites are beginning to understand that they don’t have boot straps and the government is too busy picking their pockets to provide for them.

Autumn is closing in fast. Last week, leaves were falling and I didn’t notice that the wind was strong enough to rip the leaves from the tree. It’s just that time of the year. Most of the leaves in the picture were from the walnut trees, however, I’ve seen a few maple tree leaves scattered about.
