I don’t understand Black people, especially Black males. I saw a blurb where a Black male who happens to be a preacher, said all the tactful things, then said he hoped a white misogynist racist was with Jesus. Really…Jesus would welcome the evil male who would piss on the “Other” lying on the side of the road, who would tell the woman with an issue of blood that she deserved her fate because obviously she wasn’t married, who felt no compassion for those who were murdered and those who wept for them. Really, Mr. Preacher–even in the Bible, there was a place for the evil ones and it was not standing with Jesus. Mr. Preacher, I’m not asking you to take the low road, only a sane rational road.
By one’s words and one’s deeds, that is how one is judged. Not by an announcement that one is this or that. We humans have been known to lie!
Death of a loyalist–flags, medals, hyperbolic praise–if this isn’t an Animal House moment, what is? Performative pageantry. And the message–the more morally bankrupt you are, the more criminal you are, the more you will be honored by the persons in power.
A thought–I saw two videos today about optimism. Yes, what is happening is depressing, but out of wars, disasters, bad things, we can make things better. It won’t be easy because there is a group of people who want to take us back to some imagined past where they could control other people for their benefit. I think of the fictional 23rd century of Star Trek. To get there, in the fictional Star Trek world, there was a Eugenics War and WWIII, i.e, total societal upheaval and collapse. Somewhere, in that collapse, someone was dreaming of a different society based in humaneness and not greed. Someone, not only dreamed, but acted on that dream.
I don’t know if we can get to a place where all the lower tiers of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs are taken care of by society and the individual is free to pursue self-actualization without a devastating war or a catastrophic climate calamity. Why do humans have to bottom out before embracing a new zeitgeist?
It pains me to see that South Korea and Brazil…to name two countries…can repel authoritarianism through citizen action and through their courts and the United States just seems to sink deeper into the abyss.
But when you see the head of the Federal Government’s police force more concerned with posting videos to score views than in actually doing police work–we know the ones in leadership positions are grossly unqualified. We act like that’s normal.
This week the governor of Utah prayed that the person who killed the loyalist was not one of them, i.e., white, male, Republican, Mormon. Other Republicans were calling for the death penalty and blaming Democrats and the groups the Republicans have othered. Then, when the shooter was identified as a white, male from a Republican Mormon family, they do not apologize to the groups they targeted. But someone (a deplorable) had the nerve to ask for prayers for the shooter. Because of their rhetoric which had no facts to support it, threats were made against HBCUs. These people have no critical thinking skills. Utah (Google search) is 89% white. If there had been a Black person in that crowd, they would have been noticed. They could not have blended in as it was speculated that the shooter had gotten away by blending into the crowd. Since some Hispanics are white passing, I cannot speak as to whether or not a Hispanic would have been noticed.
But white people are quick to blame anyone but themselves when there is violence, even though, they are the most violent group of people in the U.S. And, the shooters in most mass shootings, political murders have been by white males and the political shootings have been by white male Republicans. But that is not the truth the whites will ever admit to.
Apparently, the white hate groups are fighting among themselves. The spoils of hate mongering is not being divided among the groups to the groups’ satisfaction. Some are more successful at spreading hate and are making more money, getting more views, becoming more known. So, whites are doing what they always do…kill the competition.
What happens to a society where there are no agreed upon “truths”? Is that where we are now? My fact is your argument? And your argument is so unhinged that I dismiss you as a thinking being?

Lots of butterflies this year!!!
In the past, the United States and some States had some defense against the oligarchs. There were laws against corporate funding of political candidates. Then came the supreme Court case known as Citizens United. That, opened wide the door for the oligarchs to subvert democracy. I saw a You Tube video, posted a couple of years ago, about the Ukraine and how it had dealt with its oligarchs.
Ukraine passed a law that oligarchs–defined as persons with a net worth greater than a certain amount; with significant influence over mass media, who control a monopoly business, and involved in politics through funding politicians and/or think tanks. The law requires that the oligarchs who meet three out of the four criteria must register, not run for public office or fund political parties, not purchase state assets that are being privatized, disclose assets, and government officials must report all contact with oligarchs. How does the United States resist its love affair with greed to pass the laws like this that are necessary to protect its citizens? It did in the past, but that is not the past that the greed mongers want to revisit.
What has triggered these mediocre white people to the point that they are blatant, not only with their racism, but with their call for a race war? Do they honestly think they would win and then they can reinstitute slavery. Because that is what happens to the losers…right? In the Bible, the losers become the slaves of the winners. In the past, whites have won solely because their weaponry was more powerful than the “Other” they were fighting. Now, everyone has access to the same weapons. Also, their hierarchical armed forces are led by incompetent leaders. Further, the white supremacist groups that believe in the patriarchal myth of male superiority fall apart if the head is severed, as the believers in patriarchy believe there can be only one alpha male in a group of white males.
And their egos are so fragile, that rumor would also be effective. So and so individual in the group or another group has something their leader/group doesn’t. That starts internal dissension or external dispute that leads to the destruction of the group. And they are so egotistical that they wouldn’t even know what was happening.
Side note–saw the video of the widow of the white supremacist who was murdered. She vowed to continue his hate mongering. Good luck with that–her husband’s followers are virulent misogynists and they will fight among themselves to assert the male privilege of leadership. If she’s lucky, she’ll have his ill gotten money to console her.
We need someone with access to the Epstein files to anonymously release them. Like back in the day with the Pentagon Papers or Deep Throat of the Watergate Scandal. But persons of character, morals, and ethics are few and far between in the year 2025.
