What do we expect from women whose ancestresses were raped, brutalized, overworked, used as guinea pigs, lost their children, lost their partners. Do you expect that their female descendants should be silent, turn the other cheek? We, Black women, have had to step up to protect our families, our neighborhoods, our lives. This country has always been anti-Black. And, now, it is more blatantly anti-Black than it has been in the Interregnum when the anti-Blackness was hidden beneath a thin veneer of tolerance.
Since this regime was installed, over 300,000 Black women have lost their jobs. About 70% of Black women are not married. Therefore, many of those who lost their jobs do not have a spouse’s support to take up the slack. When a Black woman loses a job, in this climate, it is difficult to find a comparable job, i.e., pay and benefits. We know that one of the regime’s goals is to force all Black persons into low wage, no benefits, manual labor jobs that were being filled by illegal immigrants and newly arrived immigrants. The regime is wrong.
As Gloria Gaynor sang–I will Survive—We will survive. During the Interregnum, some Black women experienced living in the third and fourth tiers of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. How many successful rappers came from middle class homes? More than you think. The third and fourth tiers of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is where true creativity can thrive. Therefore, this is the time to invigorate and restore our fractured communities. It is time for us to silently rebuild. The Internet, the Influencers, the ones who live off our views–this is not the time to be visible. It’s sad, but true–in this Country, the Black woman has never been able to depend on the Black male to be there for her. During Slavery, nothing was secure, especially relationships among the Slaves. After Slavery, the jobs available to the Black male that could support a family were few and far between. Thus, the Black female has always had to work. Whether in the fields or in some white household or in our own business. We worked.
And, we didn’t blame the Black male for what this Country did to us, female and male. It’s like we have always understood the bigger picture and the Black male can’t see beyond his own ego. Is that a failing of the Y chromosome? Wouldn’t that be interesting?
I sometimes think our stoicism in the face of what we have had to do to survive is mistaken for anger. Stoicism–the endurance of pain or hardship without the display of feelings or complaint. Apparently, from a white person’s perspective, if we are not smiling, then we are angry.

It was so disheartening to see that more Black males voted for a criminal. The majority did not, but a small percentage did and that small percentage was loud in their support. They did not have logic or rational arguments, but many were paid and the money was enough for them to betray the ones who looked like them. Why don’t Black males understand that the Black woman is not the cause of their fragile egos and their lack of status. Why can’t Black males understand our history in this country? Their lack of status is the creation of the group calling themselves “white” and the patriarchy. Instead of yearning for white adjacency, to have what the white man has, Black males should be strengthening themselves to counter patriarchy and white supremacy to make a better different society for themselves and those who look like them. The patriarchy gave us hierarchy and white supremacy requires only whites be at the top of the hierarchy. It’s all a construct and constructs can be changed. What the whites have done with their “whiteness” and the patriarchy is toxic to all the fauna and flora of this planet. We should strive to emulate that which will benefit us and this planet, not the evil toxicity.
But over and over again, we see these loud males aligning themselves with evil.
As individuals who live in a particular geographical area, we have agreed to certain “norms”, e.g., traffic lights–green means safe to go; red means stop; and yellow means proceed with caution. But we individuals have no agreed upon definition of “truth”. Neither in the abstract or in practice. “Truth” must be universal…maybe something like a Platonic “form”? No, “Truth” can’t be like a Platonic form. A Platonic form is not possible in our reality. In our reality, we can know the form exists but we cannot ever have that perfection in this reality. So, pragmatically speaking, in this reality, “truth” is an agreed upon consensus about a particular thing or idea.
Pragmatically speaking, “truth” is not a constant, but fungible. As facts change, “truth” changes or it should. What are the basic consensus of “truths” that we abide by in this geographical region? There doesn’t appear to be any basic consensus of “truth”. I think in order to have a functioning society, there must be certain baseline “truths” or that society cannot progress. Now…there’s this conglomeration of individuals on a particular land mass called the United States.
Wikipedia–“As a pejorative term, nouveau riche affects distinctions of type, the given stratum within a social class; hence, among the rich people of a social class, nouveau riche describes the vulgarity and ostentation of the newly rich person who lacks the worldly experience and the system of values of old money, of inherited wealth, such as the patriciate, the nobility, and the gentry.” This describes the person in the White House and the sycophants who surround him. They may be rich, but they have no class.
Three(?)shootings in Michigan, North Carolina, and Texas in less than a week. But white on white violence is not addressed and excuses are made that these white males have mental health issues. I read that two of the shooters were veterans. Do Republicans want these loose canons in this country to cause confusion, fear, chaos? It would seem so as the Republicans continue to vote against medical care that would include mental health care. Do these loose canons fit in with their agenda to control this country by force and not by the agreement of the people?
$20 billion package of taxpayer money to bail out Argentina, another failed authoritarian regime, but no money to continue making the taxpayers’ healthcare more affordable. $20 billion package of taxpayer money to enrich a billionaire friend but no taxpayer funds to feed hungry school children and seniors. And how much of that $20 billion dollars will be a kickback to this regime?
Lies, blatant violations of the law, waste of tax payer dollars and Congress does nothing. By doing nothing Congress normalizes the lies, the fraud, the grift, the waste of this regime. But this is what happens when those in Congress are more beholden to foreign PACS and corporate donations than to the citizens who elected them.
Do you recall the feigned outcry against subliminal advertising. This was a long time ago–late sixties, early seventies? The controversy was centered on a drain and the word(s) supposedly hidden in the swirl of water. What we didn’t realize was that television was one huge subliminal grift. Television was intended mainly to sell us stuff we didn’t need or want and the news and programming was incidental to its primary purpose of selling. Anyway, subliminal, in case you didn’t know, means–existing or functioning below the threshold of consciousness. (Merriam Webster Dictionary)
I’ve been watching some shows from the early aughts to the teens and there were shows that depicted Black white relationship, usually a Black male and a white blond woman. However, these white women were usually psychopaths or whores/prostitutes or mentally incapacitated. The Black male was always depicted as happy to take care of these women. If that isn’t subliminal programming, what is? Black males were subliminally induced to want to care for broken white women that their own people didn’t want to care for. Isn’t that slavery? Your economic wherewithal for the privilege of having sex with a whore/prostitute, a psychopath, a mentally challenged? Some Black males bought the package! And the sane white woman was always depicted as realizing that “family” was more important than being with a Black male. Unfortunately for some of those deluded Black males, the package only came with a white woman who, whenever she chose, could weaponize her whiteness with a tear.
I will never forget being disgusted at a show that depicted the Black male lead wanting a white female psychopath character as his love interest and treating a Black female character, working…getting a paycheck, like dirt beneath his feet. To this day, I do not watch shows/movies if I know that actor is part of the cast. (I do know that in order to sell the show that was probably necessary as it validates a white narrative about Black relationships. Still, if one has enough of an audience to be cast as a lead in a television show, could he have not insisted on showing respect to the black female character?)
Recently, I went to the Post Office and there outside my opened car door, on the asphalt, was a shiny nickel. Usually, every now and again, I will find a penny!
