Two species of butterflies, sharing zinnias, no fighting. These butterflies find themselves in the same space and have no issue with sharing that space with other butterflies. The butterflies also share space with the bees. All respect the other’s perch on a particular zinnia. I’m sure there are other insects sharing the zinnias and not once have I seen a carcass. Humans with their evolved minds cannot do what butterflies do. So much for evolved minds!
Remember subliminals? Well, I have been noticing that many of the commercials are reaching back to the 1970s and 1980s for theme music. Many of us older folk have fond memories of disco and the early stage of Rap. Many of us were in college or graduate school. This music reminds us of a time when we were mostly carefree and not that interested in politics. Watergate–the Republicans had character, morals, and a sense of justice back then. The Republican president resigned and many of his minions were imprisoned. The system worked. We can’t be lulled through the use of that era’s music to think that we are in the same place in 2025 as we were in the 1970s and 1980s. 2025 is a different time and the Republicans are amoral, criminals, lack character, blatant white supremacists, and the United States has a criminal, a liar, a grifter for a president.
Also, many of the advertisements are hyping “American Made”. One commercial has the audacity of saying that the corporation provides good jobs…blah…blah…blah. All lies to lull the viewer into complacency. Not to engage in the real world where masked thugs are terrorizing citizens, where citizens and the “Other” are held in a camp gleefully called “Alligator Alcatraz”, and where lies, deflection, and loud blather pass for discourse on policies that have far reaching effects.
Bit by insidious bit, our world is changing and not for the better. The commercial that hypes that its product is made in America doesn’t say that some of the parts and/or ingredients must be bought from another country because the United States doesn’t make the part or grow the ingredient. Chocolate, vanilla, saffron, computer parts, car parts come to mind. Final assembly may happen in the United States, but trade with other countries is essential to the finished product.
Tennessee is still voting in the MAGA candidates. Sad…that hate and ignorance keeps them poor, uneducated, and unhealthy.
I saw a video on You Tube that said that the Founders of this country set up a game. I see his point. The game is Monopoly and the “Get Out of Jail” card should be renamed “Declare Bankruptcy” card. Another card should be added–“Buy Pardon”. There you have it. All the components of the game.
A rapper has asked the president for a pardon. Sad…that’s another reason this is not the 1970s or 1980s…then there were consequences for bad behavior. Now, if you have the money, just buy yourself a pardon and you’re released to continue your bad behavior.
“President has plenary authority” means full complete and absolute power to act without limitations. That’s what the sycophant said. That’s how this regime is acting.
I have asked these questions many times. Why does evil attract so many followers? Why are these followers so willing to actively engage in, promote, and acquiesce to evil? How do these masked males sleep at night? Okay, probably the same way the Klan did and does. Empty husks of greed and hate–have no better selves to shame themselves.
There was a You Tube posting explaining the concept of “whiteness”. That “white” is not a biological grouping, but a political and social construct. As I’ve said before, anyone can be white, as long as the “white” group agrees. I think I wrote about the Black girl who became a millionaire at the turn of the 20th century. Legislation was introduced to change her designation to “white”. Read about Sarah Rector (1902-1967). All about the money!
Every time I hear a white supremacist say that Slavery was a good thing for Blacks, I want to scream back at him that being considered less than, beaten, overworked, raped, deprived of decent clothes, food, and shelter, lynched, murdered, an existence drenched in deliberately sustained fear–how was any of that a good thing? How would you like to be treated like that? Would it still be a good thing? And these white supremacists are so ignorant–Africans were not living in grass huts. Houses in Africa were architecturally superior to the shacks Slaves lived in and the housing available after Slavery.
Let’s call this time what it is–The Evil Era. Seems like the worse of the worst make the news everyday. Pastors raping little girls; cult pastors enslaving their believers; politicians committing atrocities; rampant narcissism, corrupt government. And the evil is so widespread that much of the evil is not reported in any meaningful way. There are no guardrails, moral imperatives, personal responsibility, humaneness that is stopping the worst from expressing themselves to the detriment of others.
Howard Zinn, an historian. and I’m sure many others, said that the United States is a beautiful country. If he meant the land, the geography, the climate, the flora–I would agree with him. But fauna…the humans in control of this “beautiful” land…most of the humans are not beautiful in thought or deed. The humans in control are downright ugly in thought and deed. It’s a beautiful early autumn day and my first thought of the day was about ugliness. Sigh!
