Reason for the Season

When does a society mature to the point that it can honestly assess its reason for being? For the ancient societies that lasted for hundreds of years, were their formative years a time of experimentation? Did the pendulum swing wildly back and forth as the society made the same mistakes over and over again? What causes a society to review itself and actively plan to do better? We live in a toddlerized, lizard brained society and we know that it cannot honestly assess itself. What are the circumstances that cause positive growth in a society?

This society cannot advertise the true reason for the season that purportedly celebrates the birth of a man who was not even born at the time his birth is celebrated. This society cannot admit that it hijacked the pagan winter solstice celebrations and renamed them to celebrate the birth of a religious icon. Why aren’t there songs to celebrate the true reason for the season–greed? Corporate and individual greed. I don’t know if you’re seen the Harry Potter films but in the first movie–on the cousin’s birthday, the cousin has a tantrum because he received fewer presents than he had for his last birthday. The parents normalized his greed by promising him more presents so that he would received more presents than he had on his last birthday. Not Christmas, but the sentiment is the same.

Corporations want our dollars, but the corporations do not want us as employees, don’t want us in the executive suites, don’t want to support our communities. They want the days of Jim Crow where when our money was spent in their stores, none ever came back to our community.

So many corporations are complaining that their bottom line has been impacted. Some will not say that one reason is that many like me have stopped shopping at their stores. Why should I support a business that has publicly stated that it only wants my money? Corporations have been deemed citizens…then a citizen should care about the society which has given birth to it and contribute to righting the wrongs of that society. If corporations want to return to a certain time, then the people who supported them in that past must be their support and their only support in this present. We are seeing how well that’s working out for them.

For want of a nail, the shoe was lost;
For want of a shoe, the horse was lost;
For want of a horse, the rider was lost;
For want of a rider, the battle was lost;
For want of a battle, the kingdom was lost,
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail. I would add to this truism. For want of a nail, the house was not built. And the house that was built collapsed for want of a nail.

Whites have corrupted the meaning of the word “beautiful”. Now, when one hears the word, one thinks of death, hunger, theft, lack, contempt, hunger. All the ills that fled when Pandora opened the box that contained all the ills that plagued humanity.

I get what these pseudo-Christians are saying when they contend that God uses flawed males to further his plan…whatever that is. However, what about Ahab and Jezebel? They were so evil even God couldn’t use them to further his plan. Did it ever occur to these pseudo-Christians that they should be comparing the current regime to the reign of Ahab and Jezebel who died ignominiously after doing much evil.

Matthew 19:23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “I tell you solemnly, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. “Yes, I tell you again. It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.” If the twisted thinking of the oligarchs is as one You Tuber posited that the richer one is, the more favored by God–what God are they thinking of? The God of the Bible they claim to worship apparently is not eager to have these rich males or females in his kingdom. So, obviously the “God” that favors these rich persons is not the God in the Bible we all know.

Now, if they are worshiping the “Leader” of the fallen angels, then I would say their twisted thinking has some merit. The rich would be welcomed into his kingdom as they would have been his agents on Earth, corrupting everyone and everything they could. That’s why one should be skeptical when someone speaks of “God”. One really doesn’t know if the parties to the conversation are speaking o the same deity.

Does anyone remember Ray Blanton, the governor of Tennessee, who sold pardons and liquor licenses? The governor who used the state’s dollars to fund trips for himself, family, and friends? I suppose he would be lauded now, but back in the 1970s, morals, ethics, character mattered. During Blanton’s administration, seemingly everything was for sale. Remind you of a certain regime? Apparently, if the money was right, no matter how heinous the crime, a pardon was only signature away.

In 2023, this Tennessee history was revisited by Knoxville television station (WVLT) investigative journalists.

Take the case of convicted criminal Humphrey–“It transpired that Roger Humphreys’ dad was a political friend to Gov. Blanton,” Hunt said.

Humphreys was sentenced to 20 to 40 years in prison for second degree murder at Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary, but less than two months after his sentencing hearing, he was able to go wherever he wanted on the state’s dime. He worked during the day as a state photographer. The job was given to him by Blanton, along with a state-issued car. At night, Humphreys would stay at a rehabilitation center.” Remind you of something currently happening?

She broke the news on Humphreys’ unsupervised position, and Marin got a call saying Gov. Blanton wanted a live, sit-down interview with her.

“I say to Blanton, ‘He’s a convicted double murderer.’ And he said, ‘Well, he hasn’t killed anybody since he got out of prison,’” Marin said, remembering the interview.

At one point during the interview, unprompted, he denied paroles were up for sale and promised Roger Humphreys would be released early from prison, calling him, ‘a nice young man.”

“We haven’t sold a single one. I don’t know if the previous administrations can say that or not, but we haven’t,” Blanton told Marin.

Ragghianti (chair of State’s pardon and parole board) suspected Blanton’s legal counsel, T. Edward “Eddie” Sisk, and other top aides were profiting from the very system she chaired.

The FBI suspected that a man named Billy Cole had worked with Sisk and other members in the Blanton administration by approaching inmates who were willing to pay money to get out of prison.

Cole was serving a 25-year sentence for armed robbery and was a suspect in a double-murder case.

A transfer of $10,000 for Cole’s release was found between Sisk and Cole, according to the FBI.

Blanton granted Cole clemency.

“There was an abundance of evidence that this prisoner was involved in these discussions with this part of the conspiracy,” Hunt said.

The FBI uncovered that some inmates had paid $10,000, some had paid $90,000.

Jimmy Pendleton, a convicted murderer, tried to arrange a deal to get out but was denied because he didn’t have the money to pay, according to the indictment.

They suspected staffers within the Blanton administration used the governor’s office as a “criminal enterprise,” to arrange roughly $300,000 in bribes to reduce the sentences of nearly 20 prisoners, many of them serving time for murder.

(Because Blanton was pardoning so many criminals, Governor elect Lamarr Alexander was asked to take office three days early.)

“What I thought was, I’m not going to do that. That’s not the way we do things in our country,” Alexander said. “The most unique thing about our country, about our democracy, is the peaceful transition of power with grace from one party to another.” Can you imagine a Republican saying that today?

Blanton and his attorney were convicted of crimes and went to prison. That’s what should be happening now, investigation by the appropriate law enforcement. But in 2025, there is no law enforcement that is not corrupt, compromised, and unwilling to investigate the crimes that have been and continue to be committed. In fifty years, this country has changed from “hold the politicians accountable” to “let them destroy this country for their own greed and gain”. What a sea change!

Above quotes from investigative journalism by reporters at WVLT Knoxville, TN–https://www.wvlt.tv/2023/05/15/murder-for-hire-paid-pardons-tenn-governors-buried-history/

Blanton was a Democrat. The current president was a Democrat. Really there is no difference in the parties when it comes to corruption. Corruption is the same on both sides of the aisles. And the enablers of this regime are the Republicans. They are as complicit in the destruction of this democracy as the hands-on perpetrators. So different faces, different parties, different times, the same old story. And the same people are taken advantage of–over and over again and, unfortunately, the people are too willfully ignorant to see that they’ve been played.

Had a cold snap of less than a week. Now, the temperatures are in the seventy degree range. And the flora continues to be confounded. The Honeysuckle vine has a few blossoms and the ornamental sage looks like it is budding. Just weird, weird, weird!

I bought a package of paper towels-on sale with a coupon. Turns out this brand had not only halved the sheet, but quartered them. The perforations for the half and quarter tears make it easy to tear off a quarter sheet when one really needs a half or a full sheet. The question is why. Why a quarter sheet? The quarter sheet is so small that it is not useful for much of anything. Did the maker do this to say that there were more sheets per roll? That wouldn’t even be hype. It would be a flat out lie. Did some consumer focus group think a quarter sheet was a selling point? Was this an AI suggestion? With AI–garbage in, garbage out.

Another beef–the soup I buy–this year the cans are noticeably smaller. Before, I thought the cans were smaller. Now, I’m paying the same price or more for less. The sales on that brand are not as good as the sales last year. And, I only buy the soup when it is on sale. The can says that there is two servings. However, two servings for whom? Not for the average adult. In the past, I could see that the can contained two servings–not anymore.

I remember way back when–we would buy bread at the discount bread store. Ten loaves for dollar. The bread would go in the freezer. Last week, I paid over two dollars for a half loaf. The bread I usually buy was five dollars. I checked the prices on the bread aisle and could only shake my head. I do have an alternative. There is a discount store that sells bread and the bread is usually fresh. Not as convenient as the grocery store. (sigh)
