Lightning, Thunder, Action

According to the FBI, Tennessee is third in the U.S. for violent crime at 592.3 per 100,000, behind Alaska and New Mexico, which are number 1 and number 2, respectively. Alaska and Tennessee are listed as Red States and New Mexico is listed as a Blue State. Most of the states in the top ten are Red States. With the federal minimum wage at $7.25, it is no surprise. And persons running the government who are quick to cry “socialism” or “communism” if there is any suggestion of a program that might help the people. There is always plenty of money for corporate welfare, but never any money to help the people who are struggling to pay rent, put food on the table, care for their elders, etc.

First sighting of a Black Swallowtail!

Long tailed skipper butterfly?

Having a teacher who looks like you is so important! Someone who was a teacher for over thirty years has had a student from her first years of teaching dedicate a book to her. The book is about a teacher’s patience with a student who has a learning disability. He said she inspired him to be the best person he could be when other teachers had failed to curb his behavior which was a tad disruptive. She wouldn’t have been intimidated or afraid of a little boy who was a tad disruptive. That little boy probably reminded her of her brothers. Knowing what she has told me about the school district in which she taught, she might have been the first Black teacher that he had ever had.

This brings to mind a recent video I saw which highlighted some recent incidents where white teachers were saying racists things and one teacher basically telling a Black student to get over being called names because we’re all a little bit racist. There is no adult in the room anymore. These teachers, mostly white and female, lack knowledge of history, and they lack compassion and empathy. Why are they teachers? If you can’t do…teach? I remember hearing that a long time go. On another video a Black teacher said that students especially Black students, are being indoctrinated into Slaves. I don’t suppose she has read The Country School of To-Morrow by Frederick T. Gates who wrote…Mind not high things but condescend to men of low degree. In other words, there will be no true education, but an indoctrination that will create loyal, passive followers who will ask no questions and know enough to sign their name when told to do so.

Eastern swallowtail! Still not seeing the diversity that I saw last year!

I voted today. I don’t know if it was intentional, but the place where I usually vote had changed rooms in the building and there was no sign on the door directing people to the new location. One had to walk around the building and there was a cardboard hand-made sign pointing to the new location. There were more people out today than in the past couple of elections, but voting only took about fifteen minutes.

Well “Thoughts and Prayers” Blackburn (Rep.) and Jerri Green (Dem.)will be running for Governor. I don’t know why anyone would vote for a candidate whose only response to crises is “thoughts and prayers”. Thoughts and prayers will not lower the price of food, improve access to medical care, repair infrastructure, fund schools, or in any way, improve the quality of life for us Tennesseans. Jerri Green’s platform, which should be expanded upon before the general election, acknowledges the problems Tennesseans are facing in the above areas. Kudos to the voters in Memphis! A record number of us voted and State Rep. Justin Pearson will be the Democratic candidate for the Congressional seat of the gerrymandered district created to deny Black Tennesseans a representative who represents their interests. It will be an uphill battle because of the gerrymander, but I’m rooting for the Memphians.

Seems like all over the South, the politicians are selling out the population for their own personal gain. It’s happening in Tennessee and the politicians are so concerned with lining their pockets that the consequences of these data centers for the people is of no concern. Some towns are fighting back, but the politicians sometimes are acting with no public input. Maybe they know how detrimental to the people and the environment these data centers are and they just don’t care. Just saw a video where a person who says he builds data centers says that what is being built by the billionaires is being built using the cheapest technology available and that, as always, the people will pay because of the inevitable damage that will be caused by these data centers. Like I said…they don’t care. Takes money to make money and the billionaires reason that it should never be their money expended to make the money that they will hoard and never their money to pay for the consequences.
