Finally, finished watching Star Trek Discovery. Binged it over a week. I stopped watching it after Season 3 and, back then, I only skimmed Season 3. That season didn’t hold my attention, so, even though, I bought Seasons 4 nd 5, I never watched them…didn’t even open them. This go around Discovery was a decent watch and I might even re-watch some of the episodes. In Season 4, I thought I recognized the Black woman who played the President of the United Earth (or some title like that), but I couldn’t quite place her. I watched the credits and turned out Stacey Abrams played the President. How neat!!!
I have to mention the lead character’s hair. Seasons 1 and 2–straight hair–permed. Somewhat believable as she was raised on Vulcan after her parents were killed by Klingons and they would want her to look like them. (But…no relatives on Earth or elsewhere? On Voyager, they found Seven of Nine’s relatives, but the Black girl had no relatives. Okay. Whatever.)Then, in Season 4 (I think), she transitioned to braids. I mean Black woman 23rd century and you’re perming your hair, poisoning your body (Maybe not a chemical process in the 23rd century?Show’s timeline started in the 23rd century and then jumped to the 30th century.) Still non-acceptance of one’s personal physical characteristics in the century of infinite diversity in infinite combinations? Not believable.
There was a strong storyline of a bad-ass Black woman and a bad-ass Black man’s relationship that endured. So, all in all, a worthwhile binge.
I’ve written about birthright citizenship before, so I won’t belabor the point I made then. One really has to know something about the time in which the 14th Amendment was passed. Ostensibly passed to overturn the Dred Scott decision, which it did, (note the decision has never been overturned by the Supreme Court) however, the United States needed people to settle the empty lands that were being stolen from the Native Americans. Capitalism does not work if markets are not expanding. I think the white males saw the 14th amendment as a means to attract the immigrants (white) to participate in their scheme to settle the western lands. What better way to control the immigrants than through their children? The parent might not be a citizen, but look what you, the parent are creating for your child who is a citizen?
I frankly don’t understand any Black descendant of Slaves who agrees with the white supremacists’ arguments against birthright citizenship. And, especially the argument using the words that the 14th amendment was only meant to confer citizenship on the babies of Slaves. Not descendants…only the babies borne to Slaves…that’s what the white supremacists are saying. If the plain language of the 14th amendment can be limited in that fashion, then who is a citizen of the United States? Then, there will be the argument of the white supremacist about blood, i.e., you’re only a citizen if an ancestor fought in the Revolutionary War or the Civil War?
Then, the current administration is illegitimate because only a citizen would be eligible to serve in constitutional positions as the ancestors of most of this administration did not serve in either war. Their ancestors were late-comers to this United States and their descendants are doing their best to destroy what promise this Nation might have had.
Saw a video on You Tube regarding the decrease in revenue from videos. The post I saw was from a white woman referencing another white woman. White women, welcome to Project 2025. White women don’t seem to connect the dots. Project 2025’s plan for white women is for them to be appendages to a white male, voiceless, incomeless, no personal agency, discardable. Remember the professions, like teaching and nursing, heavily populated by women are no longer considered professions and eligible for loans. A white woman’s function is to mother that white male, while being a sex slave and having multiple babies. Die for lack of medical care if there are any complications, be discarded if no longer able to satisfy the male’s whims,. No divorce for you for any reason…the male will be able to murder you and be ready to marry again before you are cold in your grave. Remember the Rule of Thumb. As long as the object is the circumference of the man’s thumb, beat that woman into compliance/submission.
And the male will be able to divorce you by throwing your shoes out the door while muttering I divorce you three times. You will receive no support for the children you have that he will abandon. You will be voiceless, unable to vote, unable to work. It will be worse than medieval times…you will be a beggar and, unfortunately, since you failed to please that man, no church will give you alms because the church is complicit with the male patriarchy and hierarchy. The church will see you as an object to be shunned, punished, and as an example of sin to other women. However, I believe it was in The Handmaid’s Tale…white woman, you can be a prostitute. That…white women…is what you voted for.
Project 2025–only voice that matters is the white male’s voice. An incompetent, less than mediocre, lizard-brained child–that’s who you’re bound to. Is it now worth it? Will it be worth it in the future?
Mind doodle: I previously wrote about the end of my matrilineal line and how the tree of life would take no notice. I thought about that some more. The tree of life is a probability–and any combination that can exist is contained within. A couple of years ago an oak tree fell, rotted from within. However, for a while, it sprouted what I called branches that if the tree had fallen in a forest and not in a backyard might have used the decaying trunk as food in growing a clone of the downed tree. So, a branch may have ceased, but its encoding remains on the tree of life and low probability and possibility, it may bud again…a clone, but because of different environmental factors, not quite the same, but able to continue for many more generations.
Why are we in a cycle of reboots? When I read that Harry Potter was being remade for television…has creativity hit a dead end? It’s not the only one, Stargate, anyone? I sometimes wonder what the next Star Trek iteration will be…Kirk, Spock, etc., The Formative Years? But the aversion to “new” has been the bane of movies, television for decades. Which leads me to another point.
Have you noticed that every so often, the English make a new movie of Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, the Brontes, and some other favorite books like The Secret Garden (how many versions have I seen?)? Seems like a rite of passage for the up and coming English actors/actresses to act in a remake of one of these authors’ books. Don’t get me started on the many versions of Agatha Christie’s different detectives or the many iterations of Sherlock Holmes.
In the U.S., how many different remakes of Little Women are there? And what else? Superman, Batman, Spiderman… From a book to comic books…that’s the United States…not exactly intellectual territory. The greedy mundanity of corporations…always look to what made money in the past to make money today.
Did my taxes. You know the sinking feeling you have that what you’re doing is not right but you’re between a rock and a hard place? That’s how I feel about taxes. I am being taxed with no representation. My tax dollars are enabling billionaires who pay no taxes to suck up taxes paid by people like me to enrich themselves. We, the taxpayer, are complicit in allowing the bloated leeches to become even more bloated because the non-government we have view us as easy targets if we don’t pay. Two hundred fifty years ago white dudes said they were being taxed without representation and revolted.
