A Luddite is a person who does not readily adopt new technology. At least that’s my definition because I am not opposed to all new technology. However, I am slow to adopt new technology. Anyway, a long, long time ago, at a crafts fair, I bought a broom from a person who made brooms and it was the best broom I’ve ever had. Fast forward, that broom is now a nub of a broom and, for the past couple of years, I have been looking for a broom with a similar feel. Well, after buying, I think three brooms, I finally found one that felt right. Don’t get me wrong, I use those stiff bristled brooms, mostly outside. And all the brooms were “corn brooms”.
Stacey Abrams, who ran for governor of Georgia, said in an interview that companies are being created to use AI to determine if Medicare/Medicaid patients receive certain medical treatments and that the government would pay these companies a percentage of the savings from denying treatment.. She also said certain insurance companies are already using AI for this purpose. I think she also mentioned that United Healthcare used AI to approve/disapprove treatment and that was one of the reasons its CEO was killed earlier this year. Healthcare should not be determined by an algorithm.
So, these companies which may be publicly traded will be incentivized to deny treatment. And, as this is a capitalist country, these companies will deny treatment to maximize profits, salaries, and bonuses for their CEOs and other management positions. Corporations have no soul and a soulless entity will take the government’s money (our tax dollars) without any remorse as to the lives affected by the algorithmic decisions.
Another school shooting, but it has been overshadowed by the shooting of a racist white supremacist in Utah, no less. So, you know that the shooter was white. And, I just saw a picture of a person of interest and it was a picture of a white male. The felon who has the title President has ordered flags flown at half staff. This for a vile, evil racist, who was also a misogynist. But, there is an old saying that fits–birds of a feather, flock together. I suppose the deplorables now have a martyr.
Because of the times we live in, when something like this happens, we don’t know if this was not caused by the deplorables to further their narrative. The little white boys want an excuse to use their guns and there is no bottom to what they will do to justify using them. Now, their rhetoric is an admission of their own behavior and actions. White males who are in the cult of white supremacy are the males who turn to violence to further their aims. There irrational screeds that it is anyone but them are such an admission of their own culpability. They do firmly believe that if one says something loudly and often that the something will be believed. But it’s like the boy who cried wolf once too often…their words are lies to cover their own bad behavior and no rational person believes anything they say.
I wonder if this will distract from the brouhaha over the release of the Epstein file. The birthday drawing has been released and it just goes to show that these white males believe there is no law, no societal taboos that can restrain their vileness.

When I was a young one, me and my siblings would catch june bugs, tie a length of thread to one of their legs, and the bugs would fly round and round until the bug’s leg was torn off. Sounds cruel now that I write this, but if one lives in the country, one finds things to do. And it was something my mother did when she was a young one as she was the one who showed us how to do it. anyway, I noticed a green glint in the grass and found the pictured june bug…dead…natural causes This is September and I would have thought it would have died back in July or August.
I wonder if a country conceived in violence can outrun its death through violence. The talking heads feigning shock, surprise, disbelief at a shooting do not have history on their side. People in this country have always turned to violence to steal, terrorize, grab power, for pleasure. Isn’t that why the 2nd Amendment has been misinterpreted? So that the tendency to violence would have no obstacles when a white male wants to express his violence?
A white female was killed by a Black male and the racist who was elected POTUS immediately called for the death penalty. The racist believes Black people, males in particular, are animals/beasts that must be exterminated so that the “peaceful” whites can walk the streets without fear. Whites are such hypocrites. When a white male kills children or innocent protesters, he must have mental problems and he just didn’t get the help he needed. The Black male who killed the white woman was known to have mental problems, but for a Black person, mental illness is no excuse nor a mitigating factor.
The racist also said Black males were born to be thugs. Someone should really educate the racist about nature versus nurture. You see, white people wanted to prove that if one was born into a certain class…that if you took a child born of high class and placed it in a low class home, his breeding would cause him to be a misfit. And, if a low class child was placed in a high class home, he would never fit in as he could never behave in a suitably refined manner. Of course, the assumption was all malarkey. As long as the child had minimal intelligence, his environment (nurture) was a key factor in his development.
Let’s talk about a key factor in many Black persons’ lives. Environment–many of us are raised in areas with toxic pollution that we breathe in from birth on, pollution in the water we drink (remember Flint, Michigan) and many of the apartments/homes in the inner city are contaminated with lead based paints. Let’s talk a bit about lead contamination…
The CDC has this to say about lead contamination which can come from the water supply, paint, etc.–Medical research has established a connection between early childhood lead exposure and future criminal activity, especially of a violent nature [Wright et al. 2008; Needleman et al. 2002; Needleman et al. 1996]. Numerous studies link elevated bone or blood lead levels with aggression, destructive and delinquent behavior, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and criminal behavior [Wright et al. 2008; Braun et al. 2006; Needleman et al. 2004; Needleman et al. 2002; Nevin 2000; Bellinger et al. 1994].
Adverse health effects occur in children at BLLs <5 μg/dL [AAP 2016; NTP 2012]. The most common include
Greater incidence of problem behaviors.
Attention-related behavioral problems,
Decreased cognitive performance…
So, living in a lead contaminated environment could lead to the mental problems, the aggression that led to the death of the white woman. Nothing to do with the Black man’s nature, in particular or in general, and everything to do with his environment. And, we live in these environments because of white supremacy–polluting manufacturing, etc. is deliberately placed in or near our neighborhoods, lack of affordable housing elsewhere, etc. And, being poor in a capitalistic, racist society guarantees that one does not get the services one needs to alert one of the contaminants in the environment.
It’s the anniversary of the September 11th attack on the U.S. Outside, the sun is shining and it is raining. Like I’ve said before…the devil is beating his wife. I welcome her tears because I might not have to water my plants.
