I never thought lavender would be a go-to color, but I recently decorated a room with the main color theme of lavender and cream. It is peaceful, serene, restful. I wish I had thought of the color combination sooner!
A plane crashed. This time the Republicans didn’t even bother with their meaningless sanctimonious thoughts and prayers. They went directly to the blame game, i.e., DEI and the Democrats. When they found out that the pilots and the air traffic controller were white men, the DEI hires became white men with disabilities. You know, not the alpha male that is the birthright of white males. The ignorance, stupidity, and cruelty of these people know no bounds. They are the WEI, white entitled ignorants/incompetents, and unfortunately for us, they are in charge.
I’ve been re-reading Ovid’s The Metamorphoses. This read, I’ve been noticing that the females are named, i.e., a character has a mother and a father and both are named. So, in the first century of the common era, females and males were noted as equally important or the lore of those societies treated females and males as equals. At some point, patriarchy gained supremacy and females were treated as an unimportant adjunct to male hegemony. If you’ve read the Bible, you would have noticed that very few females are named.
In The Metamorphoses, females have as much agency as males. One thing I’ve never understood is why Hera/Juno never held Zeus/Jupiter accountable for his sexual predation. Hera/Juno always punished the unfortunate maiden who had been raped by Zeus/Jupiter. Was this the slippery slope that led to the patriarchy? Females who were the equals to the males not holding males accountable?
Interesting–if you read the lore of the ancient peoples, there were always goddesses and gods. And, I’m sure you know that the Catholics only added Mary as a semi-deified being as an afterthought because of the widespread worship of Isis. Another case of appropriation–the early Mary statues were either renamed Isis statues or patterned after the existing Isis statues.
Now, with a male god, what is there–greed, rape, discord, disease, war, lack. All the negatives of human existence have been amplified and male hegemony is the cause. That is what happens when there is an imbalance. But, how to return to balance?
Mind Doodle–In The Metamorphoses, there is this line…(m)arked his grief on the petals, and the flowers bore the letters AI(,) AI, the letters of woe traced there. I am taking some liberty with the line to make a point. What if our journey on this Earth is not linear? What if this Earth has decreed that if we do not learn a lesson, we must repeat until the lesson is learned? What if long ago something was invented and it was referenced by a name that was translated into the letters AI in our language? That AI was invented, used, and caused the death of innocence? That is, maybe it destroyed the young ones of that long ago people. And, if the young ones died then the people would be no more. A death so complete that all knowledge of that people has been lost.
What if the only glimmer of that long ago people is a mention of an innocent inadvertently dying while playing a game? And that innocent’s epithet was AI, letters of woe? A warning for those who have the discernment to understand the grain of truth in a tale told to amuse audiences across the millennia. AI, letters of woe. What have these homo ignoranium stupidus unleashed on us, the unsuspecting, who are playing with the spear that might eventually wound us unto death? End of Mind Doodle.
Star Trek referenced a WWIII. (Fiction…I know.) I don’t know if the referenced WWIII was different from the Eugenics War that was also referenced. Now, that I think about it, maybe they were different. I think it was after WWIII that the Warp Drive was perfected. From my perspective, the Eugenics War was the result of the hubris of mad men, i.e., these superior humans were created by man to protect the masses. However, these humans created by man were psychotic, narcissistic, arrogant, with no regard for the masses whom they considered inferior. In their minds, inferior beings must be subjugated or destroyed. At great cost, the masses overthrew them.
I don’t remember if WWIII was ever explained. Maybe, it was in one of the books. All that was shown was the aftermath…people had devolved into tribes or maybe just camps. In some places, technology survived, but the world, as a whole, appeared to be dark with despair and fear.
Mad men full of hubris, narcissism, arrogance started wars that they expected the young to fight. Sometimes, the wars were inadvertent. However, history tells us that many wars were started by old men to rid themselves of competition. By doing so, they, the old men, remained in power and could enjoy the spoils of war.
Taxation without representation–Boston Tea Party, anyone? (Although, I have read that maybe the main motivation was greed–the tea smugglers would lose their business as the tea sold by the monopoly tea corporation, East India Company, (Yeah, had those back in the day!) would be cheaper.)
I don’t know about you, but I live in a state wherein I pay taxes, a country wherein I pay taxes, and I have no representation. I live in a state where at least one of the representatives has boldly announced that he didn’t have to listen to the people who voted for him, only to some god that tells him what is best for those people. And from their actions, other representatives obviously feel the same way. (Really–criminalize the act of voting? For or against any issue–should be unconstitutional. A vote should be based on facts, ethics, morality, constituent needs–not some blind sycophantry to a person. Sycophantry as a basis for a vote is what should be criminalized.)
I live in a country that is only interested in showering my tax dollars on billionaires and corporations. A country that has no money to feed its hungry children, to provide an education for its citizens, to ensure a living wage for its workers, to afford benefits for its elderly citizens…except it does have the money. This country has decreed that it exists solely for the enrichment of billionaires and the corporations. So, it is a matter of priorities and, in the past, the priorities this country deems important have led to revolution and bloodshed.
Has anyone read the Declaration of Independence…lately? To familiarize themselves with the reasons those Englishmen could no longer live under the rule of the British monarchy? After almost 250 years of relative freedom from monarchical tyranny, why go back? The tyranny of the rich, the corporations, and religious fanatics feels the same as the tyranny of a monarch. For most of us, the current tyrants bring the pain of subjugation, of lack, of a deep and profound sadness. Even though the Declaration of Independence is a promise unkept…at least we can have a “hopeful pessimism” that can galvanize us into action to make the promise a reality.

I read somewhere that it’s best to, as Barney Fife would say, “Nip it in the bud”. That is…any form of tyranny, dictatorship, oligarchy, anything that is not of, by, and for the people–“nip it in the bud”.
