I don’t know if the folklore about the banana tree is true but it resonated with me. Goes like this–a banana tree has no fear of death as it sends out roots that are nurtured in the womb of the earth and those roots when the time is right burst forth in green shoots and the cycle begins again. Through its descendants the banana tree is ever-living.
A neighbor gave me a banana tree that had escaped. His banana trees were far away from the one he dug up and gave to me. However, if there is any truth to the banana tree sending forth its roots…then it is possible and probable that the lone tree was an offshoot of his banana trees.
Its difficult to see Blacks who are competent being forced from their jobs/careers so incompetent mediocre white males can take their place. Our competence will never trump their whiteness…not in their non-intelligent, white supremacist minds.
One never knows what will show up on You Tube. Today I found out that one can sign up for an extension on Windows 10 updates. Everything I’ve read about Windows 11 is a no go for me. Seems like Microsoft has decided that there is no such thing as “personal privacy”. I don’t use AI. Why would I want or need an AI assistant and one that knows my every move, at that? In a capitalistic society dependent on consumerism…I understand the need to sell. If we don’t buy, the economy crashes. However, there has to be some place in this capitalistic society for personal privacy.
This is the middle of October. Today, the temperature was near 90 degrees. Usually, this is the time for the first hard frost. Not anymore!
My clothes dryer, bought in the early 1990s died, so I had to buy a new dryer. When I was registering the new dryer, the person I talked to made it clear not to expect the same durability from the new dryer. FYI, this is an American company with manufacturing sites in the United States. Bottom line, there is no guarantee of quality and the products may even be manufactured with “planned obsolescence” in mind.
I like that the new dryer opens vertically and not horizontally like my old dryer. Makes it so much easier to load. My old dryer was also American made. I don’t know about the material content of this dryer, but the old one’s outer casing was made of steel. Another thing, back in the day, there were colors, other than white, in stock. Now, if one wants something other than white or black (saw floor models in black), one has to order it and probably pay extra. Side note, I replaced the washer a couple of years ago. So, no complaints about the old washer and dryer. They were well worth the money!

Cherry tree still blooming!!!
Saturday was a “no Kings Day” protest. Learned a new phrase–stochastic terrorism–that’s what the Republicans engage in–rhetoric that encourages their followers to violence without actually saying do violence. It’s the rhetoric that says these people are the enemy. We are the righteous. It’s your duty to uphold the righteous by any means necessary. The Republican’s rhetoric that the protestors were anti-American is an example of stochastic terrorism. However, every word the Republicans speak is an admission as to what they truly are. The Republicans who are enabling the destruction of democracy are the true anti-Americans.
This regime has released another felon from prison. Message…white criminal –good. Get out there and continue your criminal ways. There will be no consequences. Lie, steal, grift, kill–this regime has your back!
Benjamin Franklin said–Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. I saw a video posted by a Black male of a Black male talking about the Nqaational Guard in Memphis. If you r not aware, the governor of Tennessee invited the regime to send the National guard to Memphis because crime was out of control. The Back male Memphian said that the National Guard had arrested criminals and basically he didn’t have a problem with them being there. The city was safer with those criminals in jail. However, like in many cities, the crime in Memphis had decreased before the arrival of the National Guard.
Memphis, when there were jobs available for those who chose not to go to college, was a prosperous city with a majority Black population. However, with the moving of manufacturing jobs overseas, the pool of jobs in Memphis became low wage, mostly service jobs, with few or no benefits. Wen there are no jobs for the young there will be crime as they look for any way necessary to obtain the American dream or their version of the American Dream. It’s human nature to want what the society propagandizes as success.
This Memphian did not appear to have thought through his acceptance of an armed presence in his city. He doesn’t realize how insidious the normalization of a process can be. One day, there is the National Guard arresting known criminals, then there is an armed force manufacturing criminals to meet a quota. He doesn’t realize that in the end one is not safer, one is being controlled through fear. And you who invited “safety” into your city, now live in fear. Why are Black males so hungry for validation that they post and there is no critical thought that supports the post? Why not ask the question–what is the end game?
I know education in Tennessee is pathetic. The Memphian speaking obviously does not know history and does not understand how fragile the rights we have are. Does he realize that his vote probably doesn’t count because of gerrymandering? Does he realize that the persons who represent his gerrymandered district do not represent his interests? Does he realize that those representatives do not care about infrastructure, clean air and water, or if there is a hospital within a reasonable distance? Someone told him on this day, these criminals have been imprisoned by the armed “safety” that patrol his city. Since those criminals were so handily caught, shouldn’t you be skeptical? Did the local police know where the criminals were, inform the National Guard, and permit the National Guard to claim that they caught the criminals? Propaganda is the lifeblood of an authoritarian regime. We have to be skeptical of any claims. Black male Memphian–do better.

All warfare is based on deception. Hence, when we are able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must appear inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near. Sun tzu, The Art of War
