What’s A Life Worth?

Seems like a long time ago–but, when I was in school, I was taught that there were three phenotypical groups of home sapiens. The three groups were the, Caucasoid, the Mongoloid, and the Negroid. Now, apparently most, if not all, of the Caucasoid consider themselves “white”. White…initially a subgroup of Caucasoid in the West, the United States specifically, to normalize their colonization, genocide, theft, inhumanity, power over lands, resources, and peoples who did not look like them. Now, apparently, “white” is used by European Caucasians more so than their country of origin. They think that aligns them with the ones who hold power today. They should look to their own history and they would know that the power held today will not last and that the ones subjugated had no good will toward those who held them in servitude. So, aligning themselves with the “white” subgroup may not be in their long term interests.

It continues to amaze me as to how stupid people are. No socialism they shout scream with full chest. But it’s okay to bail out corporations that pay as little tax as they can get way with with our tax dollars that in turn use the tax dollars to give exorbitant bonuses to their executives? What is that? Is that not a form of socialism? So–socialism for the corporations and the wealthy and pull yourself up by non-existent boot straps for the rest of us.

One definition of socialism–centered on the belief that key resources and industries should serve the broader interests of society rather than exist solely to maximize private profit. Depending on the model, the means of production—such as major industries, natural resources, infrastructure, or essential services—may be publicly owned, collectively managed, or subject to greater public oversight than in a purely capitalist economy. What’s wrong with the use of taxes for our collective benefit–roads, schools, medical care, education–things that will help our society work for all of its citizens?

Some years go I read book by a female from Liberia who resided in the United States. Last night, I listened to a rant from a female Liberian who resides in the United States. How are they connected? The rant was all about how she had “assimilated” into the United States and was eager to assimilate even more. Liberia was not her country…she was now a naturalized United States citizen and she voted for a narcissist, racist, criminal because her only concern was that immigrants should come to the U.S. legally, the right way…like her. (Not really–she wanted to prove her “whiteness”.)

I have been to Liberia, so I was interested in learning more about it as it was at the end of one of its civil wars. Why the civil wars? The U.S. Slaves who settled there went in as colonizers. They and their descendants controlled the country until on or about 1980. They treated the persons who occupied the land they named Liberia like second class barbarians who required civilizing, i.e., the Bible (I wonder if it was the Slave Bible that they took with them to Liberia?) and the toxic individualistic, capitalistic culture that was the U.S.

From reading that book and listening to the rant, the only culture that some Liberians want to assimilate into is the white supremacist culture. In the book, the female Liberian made a point of noting that she was only attracted to white males. The rant I listened to had the same vibe. Just another lost melanated being who when denaturalization that is bandied about becomes a reality, she will be one of the first ones denaturalized. That’s how deluded they are.

Young Blacks are a threat to Israel? Waking up to fact that those who occupy Israel are Europeans…white racist Europeans? colonizing Europeans? Non-believing white Europeans, i.e., hypocrites? Israel has learned well from the United States–genocide, racism, white supremacy.

Last night, I was reading comments on a video on You tube and a commenter mentioned The Lottery by Shirley Jackson. Like every high school student, I read The Lottery and have never really thought about it since. Now, that I have reread it, I know why I didn’t think too much about it when I read it. I don’t remember discussing it in class, but I think I remember thinking that the story was incomplete. I did not view it as a horror story because I didn’t have the knowledge as a teenager to really understand what the story was about. Now, that over the years I’ve read folklore, Ovid, Joseph Campbell, etc., the story is an ancient story retold–the human sacrifice to guarantee a bountiful harvest. (Or, in many tales, the human sacrifice of an “other” by the ones in control to gain the favor of whatever god the group worshiped for their own benefit…usually greed. Also, a way to rid the group of those considered troublemakers by the ones in control.) Further, I did not know about lynchings…human sacrifice for entertainment. If I had known the above, I would have understood why the story was considered a horror story.

But something, one sees in the current news was also present in the story. That is the one who gleefully participates in evil and when the evil affects them, then the evil is unfair and they should be exempt from the evil. Maybe, even then in high school, some part of me understood and that is why I felt no empathy or sympathy for the “sacrifice”. The story also highlighted how evil is perpetuated. The children are indoctrinated at a young age (they are given stones by the adults until they can collect their own) and, even the children were not exempt from the lottery.

I think we know that the cruelest herd that walks this Earth is Homo sapiens. In the blink of an eye, a crowd of people morphs from peaceful to a murderous horde. And, we also know that in the patriarchy war survives…war is never asked to account for itself. As in the story, “war” wants no change to the status quo. War has never been chosen for eradication.

I probably should not have read The Lottery so soon after reading The Wretched Of The Earth by Frantz Fanon. Have you ever had a book in a place where you saw it every day, but kept telling yourself that one day you’ll read it? That book for me was Fanon’s book. I have no idea why I separated it from a pile of books and placed it prominently where I would see it every day. Fanon was a psychiatrist who worked in Algeria during its war for independence from the French. Fanon died in the early 1960s and I think he was too optimistic.

The majority of the countries created by the colonizers have not liberated themselves. The countries are mired in dictatorship/corruption, government controlled by the colonizer, exploitation by the colonizer, division by tribe, religion, borders, a mentality that cannot de-center whiteness, and a failure to seek the best of their past before colonization and adapt it to their present. Burkino Faso is trying and I hope it succeeds, but the colonizer/exploiter is using its guns and Burkino Faso’s traitors who have been promised power and money to ensure that their exploitation continues.

All the while, the people, the hoi polloi have gained very little from the pseudo-independence. They remain impoverished, ill-educated, ill-served by the government that does nothing to improve their day to day lives, and subject to the guns of their government if they protest. Fanon was way too optimistic that the bourgeoisie (the educated, usually western educated) would care for anything beyond their own comfort.

Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday

Southern trees bear a strange fruit
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root
Black bodies swinging in the Southern breeze
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees

Pastoral scene of the gallant south
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh

Here is a fruit for the crows to pluck
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck
For the sun to rot, for the tree to drop
Here is a strange and bitter crop

Every so often, I think we should listen to Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday. We live in a time where our lives do not matter and even though bodies are found in trees, where the people when alive could not possibly have placed themselves there, the powers that be immediately rule the deaths suicide. No further investigation needed. It is, then, up to the families to discover the truth and hold the perpetrators accountable. The families must take a page from the life of Beulah Mae Donald who, after the lynching of her son, sued Unit 900 of the KKK and won a judgment that bankrupted it. That is the way to stop white supremacy. Make their actions too expensive to continue. (However, the tendency of Black people to forgive evil should not be emulated. To a twisted evil mind, forgiveness signals to them consent to continue doing evil. In their twisted minds, they still get to go to heaven, live their life with no remorse because their evil has been justified by forgiveness. Do not forgive and definitely do not forget. The wronged party carries no soul burden by not forgiving. Forgiveness, like anything else in this patriarchal capitalistic society, must be earned and the evil of white supremacy has never bothered to earn forgiveness.)

Side note: Fanon makes a point about white people. One of the ways that white people justify their evil, predatory, murderous actions against the “other” is by dehumanization. That is the reason we hear the monkey, gorilla tropes so often. Animals have no rights that the white man recognizes or respects. So the evil they do to us, in their eyes an “Animal”, should have no consequences. If an animal cannot be tamed to do their bidding, if an animal is a nuisance, then that animal must be destroyed…that is the way their brain works.

The butterflies are back!

The black people of America have been victims of violence at the hands of the white men for four hundred years, and following the ignorant Negro preachers, we have thought that it was godlike to turn the other cheek to the brute that was brutalizing us. Malcolm X
